CHILDREN & FAMILIES

We seek to introduce children and families to the God who loves them and desires to have a relationship with them. We want to support and resource parents as they raise and nurture a growing faith in their children. Whether from a churched or unchurched family our prayer is that these lives are transformed as they encounter Jesus and we would love for you to join our team in this.

Below you will find details on specific roles in our Children & families team. Lynn or Mireille would love to have a chat if you are interested in joining our team or if you have further questions.

Precious Pebbles (Sunday)

Precious Pebbles is for pre-schoolers who are 3-5 years of age. This program runs during the Sunday morning services.

Over their two years in Precious Pebbles, pre-schoolers will engage with stories from the Bible about their Creator God, His promises to His people, God as rescuer, prayer, who Jesus is and what He taught his followers.

This is a child’s foundational experience of programs at PBC and their first experience of being led by others in the church. As such, we aim to build trust, connection and confidence in their interactions with leaders and each other.

Opportunities to serve within our Precious Pebbles team are:

PRECIOUS PEBBLES LEADER

  • Interacting with young children – including managing their behaviours and their safety
  • Helping in drama, song and dance
  • Leading hands-on learning
  • Communicating simply & clearly

Precious Pebbles requires leaders at the 8.45am and 10.45am services. Those aged from year 8 onwards may apply as junior leaders. Over-18 are needed in this ministry and may have the added role of supervising and training junior leaders in their team.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Mireille through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Kids Church (Sunday)

Kids church meets every Sunday morning during school terms. We run a program at both morning services for those children in Kindergarten through to year 4.

As a team, we seek to help our children come to know the God who loves them and desires a relationship with them. We want to encourage and nurture them as young disciples who are in the Bible discovering for themselves who God is and what their response to Him will be. As leaders we desire to help them be able to talk to God through prayer and express their love for God through worship. Opportunities are given for the children to serve and help others, to connect with the wider church and reach out to their friends with the good news of Jesus. We also seek to encourage and support parents as they nurture their children in their spiritual journey.

Opportunities to serve within our kids church team are:

SMALL GROUP LEADER

  • Weekly commitment during the school term
  • Help facilitate small group time
  • Disciple a specific age group
  • Opportunity to lead the whole group in sharing the Bible story using our set curriculum or running a game etc.

Small Group leader

  • Help facilitate small group times

Senior High mentoring

PRACTICALS TEAM

We are a practically-oriented team who love to serve by doing, and in the process, keep the ministry facilities in great shape.

Property & facilities rostered maintenance

The roster covers such things as regular mowing, gardening and cleaning of parts of the facilities. You can nominate how often you wish to serve, but we find most people are willing to do so once per month.

Ad hoc property & facilities jobs

This is for those who are unable to commit to a regular task, but who nonetheless are willing to be contacted when working bees are scheduled or when needs arise. We hold 3-4 Saturday working bees each year designed to get to some of the more major tasks completed. They are also a great communal way of working alongside others. If you have a particular trade or skill, you may also wish to offer to be contacted if a need arises.

Baking for events

This is a very practical way of serving! Joining this team means that you will be contacted to ask if you are able to bake for events such as a working bee, a newcomer’s event or other event.

Specialists Team

There is a need for specialists across many fields, including such things as builders, electricians, metal workers, wood workers, plumbers, IT (programming, security, networking, hardware, APIs and automation, O365, etc etc).

Members of this team are consulted as issues arise. If you have skills in a particular area (even if not listed here), please let us know.

WOMEN’S TEAM

The purpose of PBC Women is to create opportunities for different generations of women to come together to encourage one another as we practise our faith and, really importantly, to create opportunities where we can invite our friends and family who don’t yet know Jesus.

To that end, we seek to host quality retreats and events so that women feel confident to invite those they have been praying for. Whilst being relational and fun, our events also seek to make a difference as we respond practically to social justice issues and other issues affecting women.

There are a few ways that you can be a part of PBC women’s team.

Hospitality, decorating & baking

In creating quality events, our PBC women’s team often need assistance. Being part of the assisting team involves helping with baking, decorating or providing warmth and welcome at a large, gathered event and, if possible, to open your home for our smaller events. The team would call on you as needed.

PARK MINISTRY TEAM

The mission of the Park Ministry is:

  1. To meet a real and practical need in the name of Jesus, by providing a nourishing and enjoyable meal for any who feel the need to access our service
  2. To be a loving presence that communicates value, dignity, worth and respect to those we serve and is reflective of the love that God has shown us
  3. To look for and make the most of opportunities to connect, support and encourage those we serve, with a heart to see God’s blessing and transformation find expression in their lives.

Here you will find several opportunities to serve in this practical ministry.

Sunday volunteer

On a Sunday we need people to:

  • prepare the food in a commercial kitchen at Pendle Hill (usually starting around 10am);
  • serve the meal in the park (usually around 12.15); and
  • clean up afterwards (usually finishing by about 2.15).

Most of our volunteers do two of these (e.g, park and clean, or prep and clean) about once a month, resulting in a roughly three-hour commitment.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Simon through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Thursday night volunteer

Our ministry uses some food near the end of its life that would otherwise become food waste. Every Thursday night, some of our volunteers pick up food from a bakery and butcher in Baulkham Hills around 6pm and then deliver it to the Pendle Hill kitchen. Volunteers are rostered on once a month.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Simon through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Leadership team

Our amazing leaders are essential to the efficiency and mission of this ministry. Here are two key leadership roles in our team:

Team leader

Our wonderful team leaders are in charge of a team of volunteers on a given Sunday to prepare and serve the free meal at Prince Alfred Square. Although still serving just once a month on average, team leaders have a slightly longer day (approximately 9.30-2.30) on the Sunday and may be involved in occasional strategy meetings and ongoing discussions of how best to serve our volunteers and friends in the park in line with our Park Ministry mission statement and objectives.

Second in charge (2IC)

2ICs will have usually been involved in the ministry for at least a few months, and have shown they are hardworking, dependable and suitable to be the major support for a team leader on a given Sunday. They may be keen to become team leaders, or happy to remain as 2ICs.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Simon through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

LOVE IN ACTION TEAM

We seek to express care and love for people needing practical care with things such as meals, hampers, transport and crisis care.

Provision of meals or hampers

At times the most practical gift someone can receive is a prepared meal. These can be made in advance and placed in the church freezer, but ideally we try and deliver freshly made meals to those who will be assisted by one. We also deliver hampers to people needing assistance. PBC has a supply of non-perishable foods from which to make up the hamper.

Transport

This mainly involves driving people to appointments who are unable to access other community transport.

Crisis care (short-term assistance tasks)

This is the provision of short-term care for people needing practical assistance with shopping, washing and other household task who are unable to access other community services.

ALPHA TEAM

If you are passionate about creating safe places for people to explore the Christian faith, then consider joining the Alpha team. Alpha is a 8-12 week course that involves sharing a meal, watching a video and group discussion. Eating together creates a space for people to connect, relax and build friendships. The videos tackle key questions about life and faith from a Christian perspective and discussion allows people to unpack these ideas.

There are a number of ways that you can be involved and you are welcome to do more of these roles.

Catering

The catering role involves planning a 12 week menu of simple and cost effective meals for 10-20 people and delegating recipes to a cooking team. If possible, it would also co-ordinate the team who heat and serve the meals from week to week.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Kathy through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Cooking

This is simply making the recipes as delegated by the caterer on the weeks that you are rostered on. It also involves delivering the meal to the church on the day of Alpha, either warm and ready to serve or with reheating instructions. Expenses will be reimbursed.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Kathy through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Set up

This involves being part of the team who physically set up the Alpha space and dining tables. We aim to create a visually beautiful space believing that it speaks value over people.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Kathy through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Serving & Clean up

This involves arriving an hour before the meal to heat and serve the food and prepare any last minute parts of the meal eg. salads, bread etc. It also involves cleaning up after the meal.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Kathy through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Hosts & discussion leaders

This role is for those who are relationally warm, good listeners and can steer a conversation that will draw out people’s thoughts and ideas without judgement or feeling the need to give all the answers. From the moment Alpha guests arrive, you would be a warm, welcoming presence. You would get to know people and build community over dinner and, following the video, either lead a discussion or assist in leading a discussion in a small group.

CREATIVE TEAM

At PBC we value creativity and there are many ways that you can use your creative gifts to bless others. We invite you to join us in seeking God’s direction in creative ministry here at PBC.

There are several ways that you can participate in our creative teams. Here you will find the various roles in which you could serve with us.

Art Installation

For many years PBC has held an Art Installation in the basement showcasing original works from members of our congregation. The aim of the Art Installation is to use the creative gifts that God has given us to direct others to our Lord by speaking into what God is doing or transforming in your life through creativity. You can click here to see the amazing installations of past years.

Each year we have a new theme that all artworks are based on. Everyone from our congregation is welcome to submit something either photography, painting, sculpture, writing, drawing, video etc. This is a great opportunity to use your creative gifts. For more information contact Jo Sterland.

Please let us know what areas you are interested in:

  • Submitting artwork: Sharing something in our next Art Installation (we will email you the theme, information, and guidelines sheet.)
  • Setting up: Being involved in setting up the Art Installation (moving the display boards into place, tidying the basement, carrying all the art works to the basement, helping with moving pot plants, and placing some art works on the walls, etc).
  • Design: You have an eye for colours, design, interior design, layout, or large artwork installation.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Jo through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Photography

Here at PBC we are always in need of up-to-date photos of the life and ministry of our church. With so many ministries happening, it is important and valuable to have great images for our website, promotions and displays. If you are a keen photographer and up to a challenge, please contact Jo so we can give you a photography assignment. You do not need to be a professional or have expensive photography equipment. Just a passion for photography.

You can contact through the “Share your interest with us” form in the section.

Graphic Design

We run many events here at PBC that require advertising and promotion, e.g.: Women’s events, Kid’s holiday programmes, Sermon Series, Christmas Services, Banners etc. If you have graphic design skills and use either Adobe Creative Cloud (In design, photoshop, illustrator) or Canva software we would love to hear from you.

If you are interested to join or have questions about this team, please contact Jo through the ‘Share your interest with us’ form in this section.

Stage design

Stage presence and design plays a big part in Creative Ministry and is a visual reminder to what is spoken from the Pastors and what direction God is calling the church to go. If you like to think big and outside the box, it would be great to talk to you. Let us know what areas you are interested in or good at:

  • Set Building (Use of jigsaw, drills, hammers, circular saw, sourcing materials etc)
  • Set painting (using rollers, drop sheets etc)
  • Creative Ideas and concepts (meeting together for creative thinking for certain projects)
