Christmas is often marked by and marketed as a time to celebrate the summer holidays. It can come with the expectation of expensive gifts, family gatherings and rich food. As disciples of Jesus however, this season reminds us of the incarnation - that Jesus is "Immanuel", God with us. This in turn speaks to us of God's love for this earth and all who live in it. God did not stay distant, but he reveals His love for us through the life and death of Jesus Christ. May this advent season be marked instead by worship of Jesus Christ as our King, by generosity and kindness toward those in need, and by a deep gratitude for God's love and blessing that rests upon us.
